Pixel Homescreens: Custom Icons with AI-Generated Styles (2026)

Google's Pixel devices are about to get a customization boost, but it's a controversial move that might divide opinions. The lack of personalization has been a common gripe among Pixel users, but Google's approach to addressing this issue is an interesting one.

With the latest Pixel Drop, Google is introducing custom icon support for many Pixel devices, but here's where it gets intriguing: instead of allowing users to explore the vast array of third-party icon packs available, Google is taking a different path - an AI-driven one.

The new icon styles, like the playful 3D 'Cookies' with its rainbow theme and matching wallpapers, or the elegant 'Treasure' with its all-gold icons, are all generated by AI. Other options include 'Scribbles', 'Easel', and 'Stardust', each with its unique aesthetic. This move has been anticipated for some time, with early hints appearing in Android Canary last summer and further indications in Google's Developer Distribution Agreement.

But here's the catch: it seems Google wants to control the customization process, and AI is at the heart of it. While it's a step towards embracing personalization, the company appears to be limiting users to its own AI-generated options.

And this is the part most people miss: Google is also releasing its second theme pack, this time inspired by SpongeBob SquarePants. The pack includes wallpapers, ringtones, icons, and even saved GIFs, offering a complete theming experience.

These AI-generated icons and theme packs will be available for all Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 onwards, except for the Pixel Tablet.

So, the question remains: is this enough to satisfy the customization cravings of Pixel users? Or does Google's AI-centric approach fall short of expectations? What are your thoughts on Google's take on personalization? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments below!
