The health of Pakistan's former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has become a matter of grave concern for his supporters and the nation at large. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has raised an alarm, stating that Imran is in imminent danger of losing his vision due to a serious eye condition. The party's statement, shared on social media, reveals that Imran has been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion in his right eye, a condition that demands immediate and specialized medical care. PTI is now demanding that Imran be allowed to meet his family and be shifted to a hospital of his choice for treatment.
The party's concern is twofold. Firstly, they argue that the jail authorities are being reckless by insisting on providing treatment within the prison, despite the need for advanced medical facilities and an operation theater. Secondly, they claim that Imran's eyesight and overall health are in grave danger, and that he last met his personal physician in October 2024, with no further examinations allowed since, despite directives from the Islamabad High Court. PTI has also filed a petition seeking regular medical check-ups, which has been pending since August 2025.
The PTI chairman, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, has stressed that meeting a prisoner is a legal right and has expressed concern over the health of both Imran and his wife, Bushra Bibi. The party has also appealed to the judiciary to treat the issue as one of health and human life rather than politics. Shaukat Khanum Hospital, founded by Imran Khan, has also voiced concern, stating that it is 'gravely concerned' about his condition and has requested immediate access to examine Imran and participate in his care.
However, Imran's sisters have questioned the authenticity of reports about his eye condition, saying they have received no official information from jail authorities. They have also alleged that rumors are being spread to mislead and distress people. The opposition alliance Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan has alleged that Imran's sisters were 'wrongfully confined' and has demanded access for Imran's family, respect for the right to peaceful assembly and movement, and action against those responsible. The situation is now a matter of serious concern, with the PTI party and Imran's supporters demanding that he be allowed to receive the necessary medical care.
